Mandie Maurer is an American psychotherapist with a background in social work, now working five days per week at the Tokyo Mental Health office in Ginza. Mandie completed her training in psychotherapy in the University of Michigan Ambulatory Psychiatry Department and has conducted individual and group psychotherapy with individuals dealing with a range of challenges including depression, generalized anxiety, social anxiety, bipolar disorder, adjustment struggles, trauma and PTSD, grief, disordered eating, and low self-esteem. Mandie has received training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness-based interventions, Attachment-based interventions, and trauma work. Her modality blends relational, behavioral and strengths-based lenses while often incorporating cognitive-behavioral, dialectical-behavior, and mindfulness skills. Mandie is currently collaborating in research on measures for depression and anxiety disorders with Dr. Kissane at Tokyo Mental Health. She is also involved in the development of tele-mental health services through Tokyo Mental Health’s associated technology start-up Psynary. Mandie has lived as an expatriate in various Asian countries including Japan, China, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Taiwan.
