Rio is a Japanese Clinical Psychologist who has obtained her credentials in Australia.
Rio completed her Bachelor of Psychology degree with Honours at the University of Sydney. She subsequently completed her Master of Psychology (Clinical Psychology) degree at the University of Western Sydney and has been registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Psychologist since 2010 (obtaining full registration as a Clinical Psychologist in 2013). Rio worked as an intern in public and private hospitals in Sydney whilst completing her Master’s degree. She subsequently worked in private practices in Sydney and Melbourne, assisting children, adolescents as well as adults.
She has extensive experience in assessing and treating children, adolescents and adults for a wide range of psychological conditions including anxiety disorders (e.g. specific phobias, social anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorders, panic disorders, recurring nightmares), depression as well as challenging behaviours (including Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) in children. She also has experience assessing children with developmental disorders (Autism Spectrum Disorder), specific learning difficulties (e.g. dyslexia), intellectual disability as well as giftedness.
Rio primarily uses cognitive behavioural therapy and acceptance commitment therapy, however, she incorporates techniques and strategies from other therapies such as dialectical-behaviour therapy and schema therapy. She is currently completing her PhD at the University of Tokyo, Department of Neuropsychiatry.
