Tokyo Mental Health is delighted to announce that we will be joined in November by a new clinical psychologist, Dr. Alexander Krieg. “Xander” obtained his PhD and licensure qualifications in the United States and has worked in a wide variety of settings including community mental health centers, university counseling centers, private practice, and public schools. Xander has a strong background in assessing children and adolescents for ADHD and specific learning disorders (SLD), and emphasizes treatment planning and specific skill-development techniques in his reports. Xander holds special expertise in providing individual and group therapy to adolescents and young adults struggling with concerns in such areas as anxiety, panic, depression, high functioning autism spectrum disorder (formerly Asperger’s syndrome), and issues related to acculturation and adjustment. Xander strives to meet clients where they are at and help them go where they want to go in their lives. He specializes in using evidence-based therapy techniques such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and cognitive behavior therapy (CBT). Xander is especially passionate with helping clients better articulate the values that make their lives meaningful and developing treatment plans that work to move clients towards that valued direction and reduce barriers that get in their way. Previous clients have described him as “not overly ‘gushy’ but 100% on your side,” “honest, genuine, and very knowledgeable about what would actually help me,“ and “someone who proved to me that therapy could actually work.” Xander speaks both English and Japanese, but primarily uses English for client sessions and consultations. Xander is available Sundays and Mondays for counseling, therapy, psychological testing, and group therapy.
