Tokyo Mental Health welcomes Jordan Abernathy-Cornelius, LCSW, our newest addition to the international therapy team.
Jordan Abernathy-Cornelius is a bi-lingual (English and Spanish) Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She received her Master of Social Work from the University of Georgia.
Jordan started her professional career in the healthcare system as a medical social worker at a children’s hospital. As a Medical Social Worker, she helped patients and families navigate grief and complex medical decisions. Jordan continued working in the healthcare system and worked for five years at an outpatient clinic servicing one of the largest trauma hospitals in the state. During the pandemic, she realized the need for mental health care providers in her state and started her own private practice. Jordan has worked with adolescents and adults who were undergoing difficult life transitions, stressors, as well as experiencing anxiety and depressive symptoms. She strives to meet her clients where they’re at while working on developing a positive therapeutic alliance. Jordan believes that the mind is a powerful tool and employs Cognitive behavioural therapy along with mindfulness in her sessions to identify and change unhelpful thought patterns.
Jordan recently moved to Tokyo with her husband and son. In her free time, she enjoys being in nature and learning new languages.
